Epicenter of Progressive Success

The most valuable race on the map is the fourteenth and final race of the day, the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes for three-year-olds and which is run over a mile and a sixteenth.

The race has a history of throwing triple crown contenders, with hard spun, frisian fire, oxbow and last year’s winner Midnight Bourbon all playing a part in the characteristics of spring.

The choice this time seems to be the one formed by Steve Asmussen Epicenter. He has won two of his three starts to date, including in prominent races at Churchill Falls in November.

Today’s jockey Joel Rosario was in the saddle that day, but it was Brian Hernandez Jr. who ruled when the son of Not this time achieved his first success in the stakes up to that distance of a mile and a sixteenth in the Gun Runner Stakes the following month.

Handler Steve Asmussen has won this race three times in the past, most recently 12 months ago with the previously mentioned Midnight Bourbon. His representative, this time around, can register a first graduated success and set up for the Louisiana Derby here later in this encounter.

Halo to double

The Five Year Speightstown Set Halo again can provide Steve Asmussen with a hat-trick of wins in the mile stakes and a sixteenth Colonel ER Bradley Stakes.

The selection seemed to relish the decline of the Graded company when it went all out to win at this course and distance on a firm track last month on its first grass outing.

Joel Rosario mount delivered his best figure in three starts since returning from more than a year off the track on that occasion and after being drawn into stall two, and with the other pace angles drawn outside of him, the together looks capable of maintaining his undefeated record on grass.
