Harley-Davidson’s awesome first electric bike broke the internet – and now they’re actually selling them
Serial 1, the e-bike company that grew out of Harley-Davidson’s original e-bike program, has revealed that it will sell a limited number of S1 MOSH / TRIBUTE e-bikes.
The S1 MOSH / TRIBUTE electric bike is more like the original electric bike prototype first unveiled by Serial 1 at the end of last year.
When we first covered the story, millions of readers listened Electrek to see the Harley-Davidson electric bike that broke the internet.
This bike used a frame similar to the stock Series 1 electric bikes, but featured a number of unique touches inspired by Harley-Davidson’s first motorcycle over 100 years ago.
Key elements like the leather saddle and grips, brass accents, gloss paint, white tires and brown drive belt all contributed to the stunning aesthetic of the original vintage prototype.
Below you can see what the bike looked like when it was unveiled.
The mind-boggling concept marked a huge launch for Serial 1, which followed with several models of e-bikes based on the same frame.
The mass production e-bikes shared a similar frame and electronics, but lacked the sleek accents originally seen in the Tribute bike.
These are now back in the limited edition Serial 1 S1 MOSH / TRIBUTE, which debuted today at the Electrify Expo in California.
As Serial 1 brand director Aaron Frank explained:
“When Serial 1 launched in October 2020, the first electric bike presented to the public was a superb prototype taken from the vintage motorcycle that inspired the creation of the Serial 1 electric bike brand. We are now delighted to offer an edition limited edition that so faithfully captures the iconic look and feel of that first prototype, and use that moment as a stepping stone to launch our S1 series which will see even more exclusive and highly desirable eBike Serial 1 models in the future.
The company will produce only 650 individual units of S1 MOSH / TRIBUTE electric bikes, split equally between the US and European markets. Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
The bike is based on the MOSH / CTY model and shares most of the same components including the Brose mid-drive motor, Gates carbon belt drive, TRP hydraulic disc brakes with hoses routed internally to match to the internal electric wires and the signature of the bicycle integrated lighting. The front bumper and rear dropouts both house frame-integrated lighting, as well as an extra-bright handlebar-mounted headlight that was designed in-house by Serial 1 engineers.
While it doesn’t look exactly like the original prototype, the S1 MOSH / TRIBUTE certainly pays homage to this distinctive design, as you can see in the photos below.
Serial 1 plans to roll out more special editions of its e-bikes under the S1 line, following in the footsteps of its previous unique custom e-bikes.
While we don’t have a word yet on what other tribute or custom e-bikes the Series 1 is working on, we’ll be sure to update when we know more.
Until then, let’s see what you think of the Serial 1 MOSH / TRIBUTE Electric Bike in the comments section below!
