The 28th Annual HOT ROD Power Tour is gearing up for its annual tour which will run June 13-17. The 1,000 mile trip is expected to bring together more than 3,500 hot rods. Automotive enthusiasts from around the world will travel to the Southeast to witness the five-day, five-city trip. During Hoover’s Pensacola tour, hundreds of hotrods are scheduled to travel to the home of local hot rod enthusiast, Ricky Easterling.

Easterling is well known for his passion for speed racing, his specialist work on cars, and building classic and hot rod engines. Easterling was diagnosed with ALS in 2012 (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Over the last decade of living with the diagnosis, he gradually became paralyzed, leaving him unable to speak or tour. Easterling spends his time communicating with friends and family with an eye device called VISUALS.

Hot rod enthusiasts travel together much the same way motorcycle rallies participate; making stops in Memphis, Nashville, Hoover, Pensacola and Atlanta. Participants can participate at any time along the way.

Easterling’s wife, Robin, looks forward to the event and invites family, friends and car enthusiasts to come and watch the drive-thru.

“They’ll come through here, honk their horns, burn out and some will stop, I’m sure,” Robin said. “We’re going to have Ricky outside in a tent so he can see everything. There will be hundreds of cars if they make a detour here. Everyone is welcome. Bring a lawn chair and sit in our front yard as they pass. It’s quite amazing to see. It’s a great tour!

On Thursday, June 16, the tour is scheduled to leave Birmingham between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and travel to Clanton between 9 a.m. and noon. The Easterlings are encouraging spectators to arrive home by 8:30 a.m.

“We’re going to have coolers with water and drinks,” Robin said. “Just come and treat yourself.”

Ricky and Robin Easterling reside at 3435 County Road 47, Clanton, Alabama. For more information, contact 205-389-0676.
