Lexus India has a new president at Naveen Soni

With the aim of increasing sales and taking on European competitors in India, while keeping the government’s high tariffs in mind, Soni has her work cut out for her.

Naveen Soni took over the presidency of the Lexus at Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) from January 1. He succeeds PB Venugopal who will move on to a management position in product planning.

Soni spearheaded sales and service as senior vice president until 2020 and 2021, when the pandemic caused a multitude of disruptions. He has been involved in the development of key models like the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, which were purchased from Maruti as part of the global deal between Toyota and Suzuki.

In her new role at the helm of Lexus, Toyota’s luxury brand that entered the Indian market in 2017, Soni will have her work cut out for increasing her workforce, while facing competition from the dominant European brands. the luxury car market.

More and more, luxury car makers are starting to realize that it’s the customer experience that ultimately matters, from receipt of delivery to actual use.

Lexus already has Customer Experience Centers (GECs) in some subways and will look to expand it to tap into the growing breed of wealthy entrepreneurs who are willing to spend on luxury goods.

Soni supports Lexus at a time of heightened awareness of global warming and hopes Lexus’ hybrid model line-up will appeal to buyers who are environmentally conscious and want to make a statement. However, without tariff concessions, hybrids remain very expensive and, coupled with high tariffs on imports – Lexus India’s lineup is mostly imported – it’s a deterrent Soni will have to bypass.
